The Northern Audit Office started in 2005 due to transformations in the public sector. The main goal is to support the ‘Provinciale Staten' (comparable to Legislative Assembly) of the Northern provinces, Drenthe, Fryslan and Groningen in meeting its constitutional responsibilities and to help improve the performance and accountability of the provincial (federal) government.
The Northern Audit Office is independent in its choice of audits. Focus of all audits is effectiveness, efficiency and accountability of policy by the provincial government. The audit strategy 2005-2009 relates to fields relatively unique or important for the Northern provinces. These are ‘economics & employment', ‘mobility' and ‘care & wellbeing', subjects to which the provincial government can be held accountable for performance.
The Board of the Northern Audit Office consists of Nijhuis (chairman), Warmelink and de Groot . Secretary to the board is ms. Carolien Pietjouw, she also is head of the Bureau. Currently we employ three auditors and a projectmanager. From time to time we hire external expertise for a short periode. Our management-assistant, mrs. Ingeborgh Petri supports the Board as well as the Bureau.
